Green Win Local Derby

Well done everyone on our first win of the season, for most of you the first win you have had in a couple of years. What a great team effort. Not everyone batted, but you did all bowl and your bowling went a long way to winning the game for us. It is well and good having the runs on the board but we needed to back it up with good bowling and fielding and everyone did their job.

It all started with Jack Ray and Will Betts who batted extremely well. Will showed a lot of courage to come back after being hit and retiring hurt early. Congratulations to Jack on scoring his first 35 not out for the season. Jack hit four 4s and brought up his 35 in style with a six over mid-wicket. Will ended up retiring on 24 with four 4s and played some great shots. Luke Goldman came in towards the end and chipped in with a solid 12 not out. Well done the rest of you who batted and got us through to the end.

Our fielding was sensational. We had two great run outs with some good fielding from Travis Schumann and Nathan Ford and other than one really tough chance going down (Finn that would have been a screamer if you had taken it), we took all the catches that came our way. Sam Stubbs made some good stops and we didn’t really miss anything or make any mistakes in the field so well done to you all. Thank you to those of you who fielded for the other team. It is not always the easiest thing to do but you made some great efforts and I am proud of how you fielded for them. Congratulations to Luke and Jack for taking their first catches of the season.

Our bowling is really coming along nicely. Our wides and no balls are decreasing. Patrick Butler started us off with a wicket in the first over of the match which was his first wicket for the season, well done. Will Betts also took his first wicket. The star with the ball today was Luke taking an amazing 4 for 1 off his three overs. Bailey Skewes had 0/1 off his two overs and Travis 1/0 off his two.

Overall guys a super effort.

Rd 1 vs Bomaderry

The Season Begins

Well, we started with a loss but still it was a good start to our season. We had many positives out of the day. I was proud to see all of you use the bowling and fielding tips we have gone through so far at training. Bowlers were bowling off a few steps instead of long run ups, we took some good catches and our fielding overall was very good.

Congratulations to Jayden for receiving our first Player of the Week award – that was a really good catch. Congratulations also to Will and Travis for taking their first catch of the season. Taking their first wickets for the season were Sam, Luke and Travis with one each and Jack and Bailey with two each.

Our batting was a little less impressive but still with a lot of positives. We played a lot of good shots with half our score coming from boundaries. Our running between wickets was quite good and some players surprised me a little with how well they performed with the bat. Overall a lot to work on, but considering we really haven’t focussed on batting at all at training you did very well. Bomaderry had some great bowlers and took some amazing catches in slip and gully. I think they had 3 or 4 rep and state players in their side, so I am very proud of how you performed.

Congratulations to Jack for top scoring with a quick-fire 23 including 4 boundaries. Finn made 11 and Luke had 9 to his name.

In the end I really enjoyed how you all supported each other and the opposition. Bomaderry showed great sportsmanship and showed us all the spirit the game should be played in.

Remember training Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6pm at Husky. Have your arms ready, I have a feeling we will be doing lots of push ups (we already have 40 on the board before the session even begins). This week’s focus will be on batting and fielding – unless I change my mind!

Well played team, let’s keep improving.

Regards, Jo
